- The fuel of your brand isn't personality.
The fuel of your brand isn't personality.
How telling good story will shift your growth
I’m sitting on my desk.
Reading my tweets.
I’m feeling akward when I read them.
They look empty.
I wonder what’s problem.
I follow good structure
Put personality
Add a lesson
But nothing works.
And here I am at the starting block… AGAIN.
It can’t stay the same.
I must know what’s going on.
Why the f*ck are they better than me?
And after dropping these words, I stop speaking to myself and go outside to play basketball.
I felt hopeless.
I needed to recharge my batteries.
This basketball session rebooted me.
I was more confident.
I felt full again.
So around 8 p.m. I decided to face this problem.
Why aren’t my tweets blowing up?
But after 5 min I found out.
“It’s not my tweets, it’s me”.
The realization knocks me off.
I knew why I wasn’t at the top.
My personality sucked…
Or rather my storytelling skillset.
That was the problem.
I got lied to by all these gurus telling me that “personality is key”.
Ok.
Got it now?
What you just read was a story I wrote myself.
No need to get inspiration, edit it 40 times.
I wrote it in 2 min and without thinking.
It all came from my mind, alone.
Now I see what you’re thinking…
“But what the heck, what does he want to talk about?
This introduction was just a direct way to show you how powerful storytelling is.
You can have the best life.
The best hobbies.
Or even the best carrier.
But if you can’t tell people what’s going on in your life, you are already lost.
And I’m here to help you.
It’s been a week now since I practice storytelling exercises intensively.
Analyzing other creators.
Reading giveaways about it.
Writing long-form stories
Writing story-tweets also.
I did them all.
So let me help you.
Let’s start with an overview:
1. What’s your story
If you want to write a good story, you need one.
And the best one you can write about isn’t 2 horses living their good life.
Forget.
It’s your story.
The one you’re living now.
Your origin?
Your first Nintendo 2DS?
Your first dive?
The events you loved?
They all make your life the one it’s now.
2. Inspiration
It’s simpler than you think.
Every little moment that makes your day, find them.
How?
Break down your days.
Reflection about your past.
Think “What are the highlights of this day?”
Then write them down.
I completely advice this doc called “what’s your story"?” from Pang.
Answer the questions you find useful then ask ChatGPT to do a resume for you.
You’ll have the inspiration to start.
3. The elements
You know how to start a story.
But you still need concrete tools to refine and complete it right?
I’ll keep it simple.
But this is how a story look.
Hook: Bold claim, confession, highlight o the story.
Something that’ll grab as much attention as possible.
You’re building the floor of your house.
Ex: Yesterday I had my hardest run/Yesterday I almost died.
Situation: This is supposed to be the bridge. Give details, and throw away the context and tone. You’re building the walls of your house.
Ex: My ankles were broken. I was stuck at home. I couldn't move.
Conflict: It’s the body and most times where the reader leaves and loses interest in your story.
Make something triggering happen to grab the attention again and create tension with the 1st tone.
You’re adding stuff to the home.
Ex: But I changed this. I put my shoes & get off home. I took a long breath and ran my as* for 200 m.
Resolution: It’s the lesson. When the hero finally found his voice, you find yours.
Make a memorable ender. People think the hook is the best thing but if there’s no ender there's no engagement.
Ex: I ended up pissed off. But smiling Pain is tough. But action cures it.
4. Tips
When you’re writing a story there are some tips you can use.
Hook writing: Time anchor + Action + Place
Ex: Last night I ate chocolate at the hub.
Use long or short sentences for impact. If the line stands out the reader will read it automatically.
Write long form. Every I write a 200-word story. If you can write a 200-word story you can write any story.
Live your life. If every day look like the same you’ll never have anything to tell. Start enjoying your life and get some crazy experiences.
Thank you for your reading my friend.
I hope you enjoyed this email.
Let me know in my DMs if you loved the new format (story + value), I found it amazing.
Anyway, it’s already the end.
Have a great day.
Peace up!
